Maylands

Contemporary outdoor living. This garden in Maylands was designed and constructed by Gardens from Eden for a newly married young professional couple. Set on a small block, this large house required creative design skills to achieve a private functional entertaining area that also reflected the contemporary architecture of the house.

Liason with the client at the building stage enabled GFE to work with the owners from the start.  The clients wanted a garden that integrated the covered alfresco area' attached to the house with a low maintenance and functional outdoor living space in which to entertain and relax away from their busy professional lives. With only three metres from the covered alfresco area' to the boundary, space was at a premium and provided a number of issues to be resolved.

The lack of room' was overcome with a revolutionary use of space by incorporating tiered rendered walls painted to match the interior walls.  These rendered retaining walls incorporated lush colourful plantings and in built wooden Batu' seats. This layering of plants and materials helped to make the area appear visually much larger by leading the eye from the ground upwards and outwards of the garden. Much more surface area was available to work with and a stunning water feature comprising cleft face rock wall bordered in stainless steel, was positioned centrally and framed by Sago palms in purple coloured planters to be viewed from the alfresco area, kitchen and dining areas. The batu decking in the alfresco area incorporated an original feature glass block panel that could be illuminated at night to enhance the mood and enjoyment of the area.
