Gooseberry Hill
The hills are alive. When you encounter tough sites, this one definitely tops the list. Set on a very steep winding site overlooking Perth, this landscape had many environmental and technical issues to overcome. Access to the multi tiered site was impossible for large machinery so therefore most of the soil amendment and mulching was completed by hand. Bank stabilisation and revegetation works were undertaken to facilitate three separate tiers for planting.
The area was overlooked by the home and so a formal style visual delight was created with waterwise native plantings and a central feature urn. Grass trees were harvested on site and repositioned to frame the view and low volume sub-surface irrigation was installed for the heavy clay soil.
